5,000

The grim milestone was passed in the last few days. American military deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan now total more than 5000.
These figures include both combat and non-combat deaths, as well as those servicemembers killed outside the main theaters of action.
The total does not include service members who may die after leaving the theater of action but died as a result of their combat wounds.

How many more must die before we as a nation come to recognize the futility of military occupation?

Peace.

Nor does it count the number who commit suicide after their tours are over.

I seem to recall more VN vets died from suicide in later years than did in combat.

...and the senate just approved another appropriation for this evidently permanent insanity. It's as is if we're all on a bus headed over a cliff; and that's just great with the driver.

us in the usa,

I have not seen good numbers for Vietnam vets, but the suicide rate today is the highest every reported among our veterans. The situation is shameful and not getting better. And us lemmings in the nation keep on letting this happen as we follow right along.

Peace, Jerry
