Jane Hamsher Gets It Right, Too

Blogger Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake suggests health care as the next stimulus package. Given the millions of dollars people spend every month for poor health insurance and the talk about the need for a second stimulus package, why not consider healthcare as the stimulus? The reasoning works for me. Health people work more and spend more contributing to economic recovery. If people have healthcare options that don't cost the amounts spent today, the extra money will find its way into the economy.

If so many get healthcare right why cannot our Congress do the same? Is industry pressure so great that our elected officials will bend and leave their constituents out in the cold? No need to answer that question. We all know the answer is the same as always. Money talks. People walk.

Peace.

A great point Jane makes is "We bailed out the banks to the tune of 2 trillion dollars in the past year, put through an enormous stimulus bill, bailed out the European banks, put through yet another war supplemental, and never asked how we were going to pay for it."

But when health care comes up, Congress gets "fiscally responsible."

Congress marches to the tune of big money. Those of us in need of real healthcare don't mass enough money to stand against those industries. Maybe someday if we elect different people.

Peace.
