Just Wondering...

The NJ today has a very fine letter to the editor signed by Dana Pritchett of Smyrna. Dana poses a series of questions for Mike Castle.

• Do you recall your vote against Bill Clinton’s first budget bill in 1993, which did not get a single vote from your party?

• Do you remember how your party leaders predicted that Clinton’s plan would lead to economic disaster, another recession, even economic “catastrophe”?

• Do you recall how Clinton’s eight years in office resulted in economic prosperity, the vanishing of budget deficits, a growth in incomes and massive job creation?

• Do you recall how when your party took control of the White House and Congress in 2001 that those budget surpluses quickly turned into massive deficits; your party pushed through tax cuts even in the middle of two wars; economic inequality reached critical mass; and now the country stands on the brink of another great depression?

• Do you think that you and your party now have any credibility at all on economic issues?

• Do you really think that the voters of this state wanted you to vote “no” on President Obama’s stimulus plan?

• Do you really think that in this virtually unprecedented economic crisis, doing nothing was a viable option?

• Are you going to use “party first” as your campaign slogan in 2010?

Mr. "Party First, Last and Always" Castle won't be answering any of these questions in our lifetimes, but the point is well made. Many thanks, Dana, for one fine exposition.
