In an
address yesterday to the cadets at West Point, NY,
President Bush commended himself and his administration in yet another apparent effort to improve his public opinion status in the waning days of his reign.
The president declared that today's military is "stronger, more agile and better prepared" than the one he inherited in 2001.
Must be a different military than the one we hear over and over again is stretched to the breaking point.
...we've laid a solid foundation on which future presidents and future military leaders can build
But the foundation only works if we continue a regimen of warrantless wiretapping, alternative interrogation, and long term detention without charges. The foundation Bush built is formed from the scraps of our shredded Constitution.
Bush lauded his own administration for beefing up and reshaping its intelligence community
Would that be the same people who misled the world with their intelligence on Iraq? "Slam dunk" anyone?
Bush sacked Rumsfeld midway through his second term.
One good decision at least.
Bush again tied Iraq to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
In spite of the evidence to the contrary Bush continues to hold to this fairy tale.
Bush said that terrorists have been "severely weakened" during his tenure
Maybe he is not reading the recent reports of the reconstitution of the Taliban in Afghanistan. While the rest of us try to live in the real world, Bush and company continue to live in some fairy tale land that we do not share.
